In 1999, the Society adopted the operating name of the Manchester Beethoven Orchestra  to make it clear to our potential audience that the Society convenes primarily as a Symphony Orchestra. The Orchestra rehearses a varied and challenging programme each season. Concerts have been given in Manchester Cathedral, the Royal Northern College of Music, Holy Innocents Church, Fallowfield and other venues in recent years. Programmes have included works by Beethoven (of course!) through Brahms, Bruckner, Elgar, Sibelius, Hindemith and Copeland to a specially commissioned work.

The orchestra has been generously supported in its concerto works by the Royal Northern College of Music who have provided outstanding post-graduate students as soloists.

The orchestra which has a well-deserved reputation for the friendly atmosphere of its meetings, rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm during term time at Manchester High School for Girls, Grangethorpe Road, Manchester.
